Pocket Film Lab (12-15)
Lights. Camera. Smartphone!
In Pocket Film Lab, students become the writers, directors, and editors of their own short films—using nothing more than the power of creativity and the device in their pocket. Together, they’ll learn the fundamentals of storytelling for the screen: from concept and scriptwriting to shot composition, directing, and post-production.
Each week, students will collaborate in small teams to brainstorm ideas, plan shoots, and bring their unique visions to life through hands-on filmmaking. They’ll discover how to tell meaningful stories with limited tools—proving that great ideas matter more than expensive equipment. The course concludes with an end-of-class film screening, where families and friends can celebrate each student’s finished work on the big screen.
🎥 Did you know? Over 85% of teens create video content every month, and short filmmaking is one of the fastest-growing creative hobbies among young storytellers worldwide.
By the end of the course, students will gain:
Practical filmmaking experience using smartphones or tablets
Story development and screenwriting skills for short-form storytelling
Directing, acting, and cinematography techniques suited for small-scale productions
Basic editing and visual composition skills
Teamwork, leadership, and creative problem-solving abilities
Confidence to create and share their own digital stories
From the first spark of an idea to the final cut, Pocket Film Lab empowers students to see the world through a filmmaker’s lens—and to realize that a great story can begin with just one tap of “record.”
