The Transformation Lab (Ages 7-12)

Every face tells a story. What story will you create?

Have you ever wondered how actors become zombies, pirates, old wizards, magical creatures, or storybook villains? In The Transformation Lab, students will discover the incredible world of theatrical makeup and special effects while learning the artistic techniques that bring characters to life on stage and screen.

From silly monsters and fantasy creatures to bruises, scars, aging makeup, and colorful stage characters, every class is packed with hands-on creativity, imagination, and a little bit of movie magic.

Students will become character designers, learning how makeup helps tell a story before a character even speaks.

Throughout the session, students will explore:

Each class combines demonstrations, hands-on projects, creative challenges, and collaborative activities where students design and create original theatrical looks while learning the techniques used by actors and makeup artists around the world.

By the end of the session, students will have built an exciting portfolio of makeup designs, gained confidence using professional tools, and discovered how art, theatre, and storytelling come together to create unforgettable characters.

Why Learn Stage & SFX Makeup?

Makeup is one of the most powerful storytelling tools in theatre and film. It can reveal a character's age, history, personality, profession, and even their deepest secrets before they ever speak a line.

By learning the art of theatrical transformation, students develop technical makeup skills, creativity, observation, design thinking, patience, and an understanding of how every artistic choice supports a story.

• Final showcase: Tuesday, December 8, 2026 @ 5:30pm

• Course cost includes makeup and tools!
